I have a huge appreciation for a person that expresses themselves through creativity. I’m always amazed at how they can just free their minds to be original. Often we see the finished product but rarely are we told what the process was like. We rarely hear how frustrating things can get, how many times a person has to start over, or how many uncertain moments they may have. We rarely hear about these things, many of us just see the finished product, and that's it.
Florida artist, Karla Mendez, captures a lot of emotion, which is what really drew me in when I first came across her work. I was told that she has always been that kind of artist. To Karla, it’s extremely important to do that because it allows her pieces to resonate and connect with people. She's never afraid to bring you into her world.
“In my experiences people don’t usually want to show those emotions, they want to hide it, and pretend like things are okay, they’re happy, and everything is copacetic, but in reality they have all these negative emotions boiling underneath. That’s really what I’m attracted to. I like showing that and bringing that to the forefront because I feel like there is so much honesty in that. It’s also therapeutic because I definitely have battles with things like that.” - Karla Mendez
That’s what I love so much about the artist. Through creation, they are able to touch people. To me that is an amazing talent to have and everyday Karla continues to just get better and better. I think it's dope how her main goal is to make you feel something when you look at each piece.
Karla is growing, she is constantly working on her craft. I've been following her for some time now and when I first met her I got the sense of how much love she truly has for what she does. The passion is real and it goes through the roof. I can't wait to see more art by Karla Mendez.
"There's just this need to create. I can't go a day without drawing, if I do, I feel very empty. I have to get my feelings out through creating. Whichever way it may be." - Karla Mendez
